Mission Orion Monitoring Systems provides integrated GPS networks for precise real-time and long-term deformation monitoring of engineered structures and natural hazards. We focus on the application of Global Positioning System (GPS) technology to monitor the behavior of dams, bridges, tall buildings, roadways, railways, pipelines, aqueducts, landslides, excavated slopes, active faults, volcanoes and virtually any other object or feature that benefits from GPS satellite visibility. Our near-term goal is to help infrastructure managers and scientific researchers gain a greater understanding of the continuous behavior of their systems. Our long-term goal is to efficiently and effectively integrate new technologies to improve the safety and security of our environment. History Orion was founded in 1999 to provide consulting services in the areas of GPS network design and implementation for high-precision deformation monitoring. Our management team holds substantial expertise in the development and operation of continuous, high-precision GPS networks for the measurement and study of plate tectonic motions. Our experience in this field dates to the inception of continuous GPS techniques, contributing to high-precision GPS monitoring projects in western North America, the Hawaiian Islands, the southwest Pacific and Asia. Since our founding, we have been translating our expertise in high-precision GPS into the field of structural performance monitoring. Orion's staff has worked with a variety of geophysical instruments and techniques, performing systems integration, software development, network design and installation, and long-term operations and management. This broad base of experience enables us to provide our customers with complete, high-precision GPS solutions for virtually any monitoring problem. Why Orion? Our company was named after the constellation Orion (O-ri-on) to reflect the use of GPS as our core technology. The GPS constellation consists of 24 satellites (standard, presently 28) in six orbital planes. The Orion constellation is one of the most easily recognized and identifiable constellations in the sky and is visible from 85 degrees north to 75 degrees south latitude.
